Festival will put manufacturing in the spotlight - Parkin

Davy Markham managing director Kevin Parkin has told Insider that the inaugural Sheffield Manufacturing Week will draw attention to the dominant role of manufacturing in the city and the surrounding area. Speaking after the launch of what is promised to be a Festival of Manufacturing, Parkin highlighted the importance South Yorkshire manufacturers attached to the Made in Sheffield stamp of quality.

William Beckett scoops £50,000 investment
Plastics manufacturer William Beckett Plastics (WBP) has received a £50,000 investment from UK Steel Enterprise, the Corus Group subsidiary. Sheffield-based WBP is poised to enter new markets both in the UK and worldwide and the investment will result in jobs, apprenticeships and new products at the former Queens Award winner.

Barclays Corporate appoints new relationship director for Doncaster
Barclays Corporate has appointed John Parker as relationship director for the Doncaster area. Parker, who has worked for Barclays for more than 37 years, formerly worked in the Sheffield area but moved to Doncaster following the retirement of John Spalton.

Connect-IP enters new markets
Connect-IP, the cabling company based in Wales Bar, Sheffield, is moving into new markets as it celebrates its fifth year in business. The company has launched Rapidsentry, a security system for use in remote areas, and has teamed up with Milestone Systems in the development of image processing surveillance software.

New director at SIG
SIG, the pan-European supplier of insulation and specialist construction products based in Sheffield, has appointed Leslie Van de Walle as an independent non-executive director with effect from 1 October. Van de Walle is currently a non-executive director of Aviva.

Matischen to be unveiled as Chamber president
Yuri Matischen will be installed as the new president of the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce at its 153rd annual general meeting. Matischen, who takes over from Nick Tovey, is the managing director of Chapeltown-based sports and leisure business MLS.

The pie’s the limit for Toppings after contract win
Doncaster-based The Topping Pie Company has secured a national contract with supermarket chain The Co-operative. The business will supply its pies and quiches to 200 Co-operative stores.

Forum appoints new business development manager
The Forum of Private Business (FPB) has appointed Geoffrey Gracey as its new business development manager for North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. The FPB hopes the appointment will increase recruitment in the regions by providing a local contact for businesses interested in finding out more about its work.

Waddingtons buys piece of Vantage Park for £1m
Property developer Waddingtons has purchased the eastern part of the site at Vantage Park in Sheffield for £1m. Only eight acres of land now remain on the market at the business park.

Knowledge Transfer Centre designs get green light
The design for the Knowledge Transfer Centre, a facility to be built adjacent to the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Rotherham, has received planning permission. The £4m project for the University of Sheffield was designed by national architect Bond Bryan.
