New chamber boss calls for sport focus
New Sheffield Chamber of Commerce president Yuri Matischen has called on the region to place sport, leisure and tourism at the heart of its inward investment offer. The managing director of Chapeltown-based sports and leisure firm MLS was voted in to succeed Nick Tovey at the chamber’s 153rd AGM yesterday.

Two Sheffield mortgage brokers fined and jailed
Two Sheffield-based mortgage brokers have been fined more than £400,000 and banned from working in regulated financial services after being found guilty of mortgage fraud. Mark Bates and Alan Hill, formerly of Pace Financial Management, were fined £264,683 and £150,000 respectively. Both men have been jailed for fraud-related offences.

Morrison tops Insider Rich List
Sir Ken Morrison, the honorary president of Morrisons, the supermarket chain he helped build into a £7.6bn operation, has topped Insider's Yorkshire Rich List. After bowing out as Morrisons chairman in 2008, Morrison re-enters the chart with his value estimated at £1.54bn.

82,000 Yorkshire jobs under threat - PwC
Yorkshire and Humberside must prepare for about 82,000 job losses in the public and private sectors by 2014/15, according to research by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). This figure represents approximately 3.7 per cent of the total jobs in the region, which could be axed as a result of the imminent public sector spending review.

Norris impressed by hydrogen car
A hydrogen powered Ford Focus, created by ITM Power, attracted interest when former transport minister and director general of the Road Haulage Association Steven Norris visited the company's factory in Sheffield. Norris, accompanied by ITM chairman Professor Roger Putnam, witnessed a range of advanced hydrogen technology for decarbonising transport.

Brookfields sites on the market
Two remaining sites spanning nine acres of the Brookfields development in Rotherham are now on the market. CB Richard Ellis, in Sheffield, has been instructed to market the opportunities by St Paul's Developments and Tritax Assets. The 85-acre site already features occupants such as Next Group, Garnett Dickinson and Maplin Electronics.
