Insider launches Back the Bid rail campaign
Insider is throwing its weight behind a £530m plan to revolutionise trans-Pennine rail with high-speed, non-stop services connecting cities across the north. Rail operator Network Rail has spent four years exploring what improvements can be made and now, with its Northern Hub proposals finalised, Insider has launched a campaign urging the government to back the rail bid.

JGP plans expansion with £50,000
JGP Engineering has received a £50,000 business loan from Finance Yorkshire. The Barnsley-based engineering business intends to use the funding to create a powder coating facility at their premises which will create approximately three new jobs.

University launches R&D funding initiative
The University of Sheffield has launched its "Building for the Future" scheme, aiming to work with UK-based companies on collaborative research and development projects. Up to ten 'Innovation Awards' of £5,000 will be made available giving companies the opportunity to access research expertise and facilities.

CPS wins Chinese contract
Doncaster-based Clyde Process Solutions has won a contract worth £2m. Clyde provides pneumatic conveying and air filtration solutions for process industries. It is to supply its coal injection technology for three coal-to-methanol plants in Henan Province in China. The deal has been secured as part of the UK trade delegation led by the Prime Minister David Cameron.

New executive chair at UK Coal
Doncaster-based UK Coal has appointed Jonson Cox as executive chairman with effect from 15 November. Current chairman David Jones and chief executive Jon Lloyd will step down from their positions on that date.

UK debt forecast to hit £10tn - PwC
While the economy is forecast to continue to grow, UK public and private debt is expected to hit £10tn by 2015 as a result of the country's "addiction to debt". That’s according to the latest economic outlook report from PricewaterhouseCoopers. PwC analysis of official national accounts data shows that the total burden of debt on the UK economy rose from around twice national income in 1987 to just over three times national income in 2000.

Quba wins Katy Perry fragrance work
Sheffield-based digital agency Quba has secured a contract to create a website for US singer Katy Perry's new fragrance, Purr. Katyperrybeauty.co.uk will be a 'one-stop shop and information point' for UK customers who can sign up for alerts through newsletters and follow the latest news on Facebook and Twitter.

Jones Lang LaSalle has been appointed to manage the entire UK property portfolio of Staffordshire-based Caudwell Properties, the business established by Phones4U founder John Caudwell. In Yorkshire, the mandate comprises three single let office and industrial investments: Riverside Court, Sheffield, Trax Park in Doncaster and a Londis Distribution Centre in South Elmsall, near Wakefield.
