Robin Hood to "get closer" to business
Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport has vowed to “get closer” to Yorkshire businesses so they serious consider using the airport rather than flying from Manchester. Nick Smillie, aviation sales director for Robin Hood owner Peel Airports, told Insider it wanted to capitalise on the launch of Easyjet routes out of the airport last April, especially given that Easyjet has a track record of being used by cost-conscious businesses. Smillie said: “We are now actively engaging with businesses, telling them where we fly to and also finding out what routes they need. We have never really got close to companies before.” Smillie said getting a carrier like Easyjet into Robin Hood was a major breakthrough and the next step would be to lure a hub carrier such as KLM, Air France or Lufthansa. Meanwhile, Smillie is now forecasting 40 per cent growth in passenger numbers in the financial year 2010/2011, largely driven by Easyjet which has started flying to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Faro, Palma and Prague from Robin Hood.
