Sheffield's got it MADE

Starting today in Sheffield, MADE: The Entrepreneur Festival is designed to elevate the city’s profile as an investment centre with a focus on the government’s stated drive for an enterprise-led recovery. That’s according to Brendan Moffett, director of strategic marketing at Creativesheffield, who told Insider the festival feel of the event had helped attracted some high profile speakers.

F E Mottram secures finance for growth plans
Specialist metal manufacturer F E Mottram has restructured its management team and secured financing for growth from Barclays Corporate. The Sheffield-based business, founded in 1973, produces Ferro Titanium for the domestic and overseas markets.

Cathelco granted £358,000 in investment
A manufacturer based in Chesterfield has received a grant for business investment (GBI) worth £175,000 from the East Midlands Development Agency (Emda). The funding created 18 new jobs at Cathelco, which was also granted a further £183,440 for research and development.

Taylor&Emmet earns Legal 500 recognition
Sheffield law firm Taylor&Emmet has been included within The Legal 500 2010, achieving its best ever rankings in the industry guide. The firm, which featured for the second year running, gained recognition in nine disciplines and was praised for “gaining traction in the market” and for being “among several local firms attracting top work”.

LEP hopefuls revealed
The government has confirmed five local enterprise partnership (LEP) proposals have been received from Yorkshire, including bids from Hull, East Riding and Scarborough, Humber, Leeds City Region, Sheffield City Region and York and North Yorkshire. Unlike other areas of the UK, Yorkshire threw up few surprises with the more confused situation in Hull and the Humber expected.

Dome invests £250,000 in the Ice Caps
Doncaster Dome is investing £250,000 in a four-week refurbishment programme on its skating rink. The venue’s rink will close during the work, re-opening on 1 October when the Dome celebrates its 21st birthday.

Businesses warned about document filing penalties
Businesses in Yorkshire have been warned by Grant Thornton to be vigilant when submitting accounts to Companies House, after figures revealed a high rejection rate. More than one in ten accounts submitted to the government-run register are rejected due to mistakes such as missing documents and signatures, leaving companies open to potential fines.

Wednesday reach deal with bank
It is understood that Sheffield Wednesday have been saved from administration after the League One football club reached an agreement with its bank over unpaid tax. Wednesday were due in court today over an unpaid tax bill thought to be for £1.1m to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

£1.6m scheme completes at Thorncliffe Park
A £1.6m scheme to help reduce the risk of flooding to around 70 properties has been completed on Thorncliffe Park Estate. The project involved building a large pond to hold water back during a flood.

HCA confirms £44m funding for 954 new homes
The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has confirmed £44m of funding to provide 954 new homes in Yorkshire and The Humber. The national housing and regeneration delivery agency for England said the homes would be funded through the National Affordable Housing Programme across all 21 authorities in Yorkshire and The Humber.
