Fujitsu Siemens has ‘no concrete plans’ for redundancies
Fujitsu Siemens says job losses in Sheffield are unlikely following Fujitsu’s acquisition of Siemens’ stake in the European IT joint venture, but it can’t rule them out. Fujitsu, one of Japan’s biggest technology companies, intends to buy Siemens’ entire 50 per cent shareholding for about €450m and Fujitsu Siemens Computers will then become a subsidiary of Fujitsu when the deal completes in April 2009. Stefan Müller, head of corporate communication at Fujitsu, said: “There are no concrete plans for how this will affect the single sites we have across the globe. In the next couple of weeks we will take a closer look at the company and our strategy regarding the global financial challenges. There may be just some realignment, but I wouldn’t call it restructuring. I believe there will be no effect on the site in Sheffield.”

Council leader Paul Scriven said this was the first part of its Delivering for Business programme, which will include changes to the planning process, match funding for skills and a one-stop shop for business services. graphic
