Ripwire turns its sights on SY
Wireless technology business Ripwire aims to become the largest broadband provider on South Yorkshire's superfast Digital Region broadband network. That's according to managing director and founder Liam Winder, who told Insider Ripwire's success was attracting interest from other businesses.

ITM Power, the Sheffield-based energy storage and clean fuel company, has secured grant funding of £108,000 from the Carbon Trust. The funding will be used for the development of ITM's materials for application in automotive fuel cells.

Sir Nigel Knowles, the joint global chief executive of law firm DLA Piper, has been made an honorary professor of the school of law at the University of Sheffield. Knowles studied law at the university before going on to enjoy a successful career in the profession.

Sheffield-based The Milestone gastro pub is set to battle it out with Bradford-based Indian restaurant Pradesh for a place in the final of Gordon Ramsey's latest Channel 4 show. The Milestone, which has made it past 12,000 other restaurants to reach the semi-final, has already witnessed an increase in the volume of bookings and interest driven by this success.

Nabarro warns SFO will seek bribery 'scalp'
Commercial law firm Nabarro has warned that the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) will look for a ‘big scalp’ following the introduction of the Bribery Act 2010 early next year to show that the new law has teeth. James Hartley, a partner at the firm's Sheffield office, said the SFO would want to "send a clear message to directors across the country that they are being watched".
