Non-lawyers join Irwin Mitchell's equity structure
National law firm Irwin Mitchell has appointed two non-lawyers at its Sheffield office, finance director Mark Dakin and costs manager Steven Green, to the firm’s equity structure. The appointments are the first instance of individuals from a non-legal background attaining equity status at Irwin Mitchell. National managing partner John Pickering said the introduction of Dakin and Green to the firm’s equity structure was an indicator of Irwin Mitchell’s modernisation, as it seeks to take advantage of opportunities arising from the deregulation of the legal market by the Legal Services Act. Pickering said: “The legal market is changing all the time and the promotion of two non-lawyers for the first time to equity status is an important one but it’s just one of many innovations in recent years which put Irwin Mitchell at the vanguard of change in the legal sector.” The firm also promoted three solicitors to partner at its Sheffield office, bringing the number of partners nationwide to 147. Jonathan Scarsbrook, who works in the firm’s volume legal services division, asbestos-related disease lawyer Helen Ashton and medical law specialist Tom Mather have all been promoted to salaried partners in their respective departments.
