Trelleborg buys Watts Tyres for £21.6m
Gloucestershire-based industrial tyre maker Watts Tyres has been bought by Swedish group Trelleborg for £21.6m. Watts Tyre Group, which is based in Lydney, is represented in North America by Watts Industrial Tyre Services, and has annual sales of about $42m and about 230 employees.

Plymouth Argyle issued with winding-up order
Plymouth Argyle football club has been issued with a winding-up order by HM Revenue & Customs. The League One side was presented with a petition last month. The club has been summoned to appear at the Royal Courts of Justice on 8 December.

Businesses downbeat after rail electrification postponed
Businesses and councils in the South West have expressed disappointment and frustration after the government put on hold the electrification of the mainline rail route to London. Plans for the electrification of the London to Swansea route have been put on hold until at least the new year, despite a previous government commitment, and it is feared any decision is unlikely until the end of the decade.

Mears takes on £37m Rok contract
Mears, the Gloucester-based social housing repairs and maintenance business, is to take over a major contract with Bristol City Council from collapsed Exeter-based building services firm Rok, saving 100 jobs.

Viridor helps Pennon profits edge higher
Pennon, the Exeter-headquartered waste and water group, has achieved a small increase in half-year profit. The group experienced a sharp rise in profits at recycling subsidiary – but this has been offset by a fall in profits at another subsidiary South West Water.
