Cornwall plants could decide UK’s geothermal future
The UK’s first commercial geothermal power plant near Redruth in Cornwall has been granted planning permission. Engineers will begin drilling a 4.5km deep borehole in early 2011. Another site at the Eden Project is still awaiting approval. But experts said that the success or failure of the two projects could decide whether geothermal technology is used to meet Britain’s energy needs in years to come.
