Balfour Beatty buys Rok units for £7m
Infrastructure group Balfour Beatty has acquired segments of collapsed Exeter-based building services firm Rok's affordable housing and general construction division for £7m, of which £4m has been paid in cash. Balfour Beatty says it hopes the move will boost the presence of its Mansell brand in the South Midlands.

Somerset firm Sector Training sold in £900,000 deal
Somerset-based Sector Training has been bought by Coventry-headquartered Education Development International (EDI) in a deal worth £900,000. Sector Training, which is headquartered in Taunton, provides strategic consultancy and specialist training services to further education colleges.

Businesses count the cost of Cornwall floods
Scores of businesses in Cornwall are counting the costs after floods swept across the county. The Eden Project is one of the businesses affected by the storms and the attraction near St Blazey is expected to be closed for several days. St Austell’s Cornish Market World – Cornwall’s largest indoor market and home to around 86 traders – has also been closed.

£10m investment at Cornwall campus
A £10m investment has been confirmed to build learning, teaching and research facilities at the Tremough Campus in Penryn, Cornwall. The finance will help the University of Exeter (UoE) and University College Falmouth (UCF) to continue to develop a campus in Cornwall.

Flybe launches new routes to Dusseldorf and France
Exeter-based airline Flybe has launched a seasonal route from Exeter to Dusseldorf in Germany in addition to three new destinations in France. The carrier announced that it will operate weekly non-stop flights to Dusseldorf between 23 April and 24 September 2011.

DB Russell enters administration with loss of 30 jobs
North Somerset-based building firm DB Russell Construction has gone into administration with the loss of 30 jobs.

Plan to turn Bristol magistrates' court into hotel
The former magistrates' court building in Bristol city centre could be redeveloped into a 160-bedroom hotel and a student 125-bed student building. Bristol developer Deeley Freed Estates has unveiled plans to transform the 85,000 sq ft eight-storey 1960s complex in Nelson Street.
