Property management company British Land has acquired the leasehold interest in Barnstaple's Green Lanes Shopping Centre for £30m. The centre has 131,000 sq ft of retail space and a 99 per cent occupancy rate.

The Hucclecote Centre closes to cut costs
The Hucclecote Centre, an office building and conference facility, is being closed by Gloucestershire County Council to save money. The council is looking to generate up to £45m from reducing the number of buildings it operates from, sharing premises with partners and selling land and property. The council said these savings would help to protect frontline services.

Empty shop research shows South West vacancies
There are more empty shops in the South West than elsewhere in the South, according to research by The Local Data Company (LDC). The shop vacancy level in the South West is 14 per cent, which is higher than the average vacancy level for the southern region as a whole of 12.3 per cent.

Dorset cosmetics business Lush is planning to build a new website after the company fell victim to hackers. The company said it was affected by the hackers between 4 October 2010 and 20 January 2011.

Design consultancy flb in rebrand
The packaging design consultancy flb, which has created brands of companies including Asda, Kenwood, MIRA and Danone, has rebranded itself. The Cheltenham-based company will now be known as Bos:, which stands for Brand on Shelf.

South West tops chartered surveyor table
The South West is top of the pass rate league table for newly qualified chartered surveyors. In the latest round, 79 per cent of South West candidates passed their Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) exams - a higher rate than anywhere else in the UK. The closest rival was London with 76 per cent.
