Public Sector Team Award
Winner Liverpool Vision.
This award is designed to acknowledge those public sector teams that have improved their communities by working with the private sector. And Jim Gill and his team have produced the goods at Kings Waterfront and have laid the foundations for development at Pier Head and Mann Island.
Shortlist Liverpool Vision, Bolton Council, Kingsway Partnership Rochdale.
Sponsored by MC2
Office Agents Award
Winner DTZ.
The office agents award recognises the contribution made by agency teams in finding homes for businesses in the city centres and business parks of the region. DTZ just edged out GVA, winners in two of the past three years, and King Sturge. DTZ’s biggest achievement has been as joint agent on Spinningfields and finding new homes for Begbies Traynor, Pinsent Masons and Regus.
Shortlist GVA Grimley, DTZ, King Sturge.
Sponsored by Addleshaw Goddard.
Regeneration Award
Winner Miller Homes.
The judges were looking for developments that had social and economic regenerative qualities and made huge improvements in communities as a whole. Miller most deserved the title for its Unity Quarter development, a housing-led regeneration project in Salford, which will deliver up to 2,500 new homes over ten years.
Shortlist Town Centre Securities, Miller Homes, City South Developments, Ask Developments.
Sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland.
Architects Practice of the Year
Winner Denton Corker Marshall.
This award highlights the very best architecture and it is important that on the tenth anniversary of these awards a clear statement is made. Australian architect Denton Corker Marshall has only completed one North West project, Manchester’s Civil Justice Centre, but the judges felt that such a landmark should be recognised.
Shortlist Sheppard Robson, Denton Corker Marshall.
Sponsored by Allied London.
Property Law Firm of the Year
Winner DWF.
The North West is blessed to have some of the finest legal advisers around and the field was strong in this category. DWF said one of its highlights was advising St Modwen in the deal to bring Adidas to Trafford Park, a process that took 13 months from beginning to end. The firm provided strong client testimonies and remains highly regarded across the North West and beyond.
Shortlist Halliwells, DWF, Hill Dickinson.
Sponsored by First Investments.
Commercial Developer of the Year
Winner Allied London.
Property development takes time, patience and an ability to deliver. The work of the shortlisted developers in Manchester and Liverpool has been transformational. Allied London’s Spinningfields is now a firm part of Manchester’s commercial core. With the completion of the Foster-designed Halliwells building, as well as new homes for HSBC and Grant Thornton and the first leisure elements, Spinningfields has truly arrived.
Shortlist Muse Developments, Allied London, Argent, UK Land & Property.
Sponsored by Halliwells.
Retail & Leisure Scheme Award
Winner Chill Factore.
The judges were looking here for evidence of commercial courage as well as creating a new type of environment. As a new idea, Chill Factore shows the bravery of its owners. The whole package has been carefully considered, from the retail and restaurants to the ski slope.
Shortlist Chill Factore, Golden Square Warrington, Grand Arcade Wigan.
Sponsored by Roland Dransfield PR.
Investment Agents Award
Winner Jones Lang LaSalle.
The Jones Lang LaSalle team, headed by Jonathan Mills, is probably the most active in the region and acted on all Manchester’s major transactions in 2007. One of its hightlights was the sale of 58 Mosley Street at Manchester’s record yield.
Shortlist Jones Lang LaSalle, GVA Grimley, Tushingham Moore.
Sponsored by Maple Grove Developments.
Residential Developer/Housebuilder of the Year
Winner Urban Splash.
It’s tough in the housing market at the moment and in times of adversity the best shine through. The judges were impressed with all three developers and their ability to do something different. Chimney Pot Park, although not perfect, is an example of a scheme that Splash didn’t have to do, but did, and has proved popular. The 3 Towers scheme, where Splash is converting Collyhurst council flats, is two-thirds done and the company has shown genuine commitment to doing things a different way in New Islington.
Shortlist Braidwater, Urban Splash, West Properties
Sponsored by Celtic.
Construction Firm of the Year
Winner Carillion.
Carillion retained the title it won in 2007 with another strong showing, completing major projects for big-name clients across the region. The judges said: “Walking onto a Carillion site is a fantastic experience and its entry sums up the work it is doing fantastically. It is the North West’s builder of the moment.”
Shortlist Eric Wright, Carillion, Bardsley Construction.
Sponsored by KPMG.
Property Deal of the Year
Winner UK Land & Property and Pochin for the acquisition of Walker House.
The deal of the year doesn’t just reward the agency that made the biggest fee. It also looks at the effects of that deal on the economy of the region. After its acquisition of Horton House narrowly lost out to Bruntwood in 2007, UKL&P triumphed second time around with what is essentially part two of that deal – Horton House’s sister building at the Exchange Flags complex in Liverpool, Walker House.
Shortlist Argent for the sale of 3 and 4 Piccadilly Place; St Modwen for Adidas; and UK Land & Property and Pochin for the acquisition of Walker House at Exchange Flags in Liverpool.
Sponsored by DWF.
