The Big Chip Awards 2009
Big Chip Awards 2009: The Shortlist

Big Chip judges faced tough decisions

Over 40 companies from across the North West will be competing this summer after being shortlisted for The Big Chip Awards, the North West’s annual awards for companies excelling in the use of digital media and technology, for which Insider is acting as media partner. A total of 58 entries are on the shortlist, including 28 companies from Greater Manchester, seven from Lancashire, three from Liverpool and 11 from Cheshire. The panel of judges, chaired by Michael Nutley, editor of New Media Age magazine, and including Alasdair Rawsthorne of Manchester University, Alasdair Scott of Filter and Matt Locke, commissioning editor at Channel 4, had the tough job of selecting the shortlist. The awards are organised by Manchester Digital, the trade association for the region’s digital sector, and will be again hosted on 18 June by Manchester broadcaster Terry Christian. The shortlists for the Game of the North Award and Tasty Website Award will be the subject of a separate announcement later. Chairman of Manchester Digital Shaun Fensom said: “We were overwhelmed with the number of high-quality entries and the judges had an incredibly difficult decision cutting these down to create a shortlist. The economic downturn has not deterred the digital sector from highlighting its successes and we think we have some of the best entries since the awards began 11 years ago.”
