Johnson Service to restructure Prescot business

Dry-cleaner and workwear provider Johnson Service Group, which is based in Preston Brook and operates its dry-cleaning business from Prescot, has acquired three private finance initiative (PFI) contracts, plus two related special purpose companies, from the administrators of York rail company Jarvis. The company will pay a total consideration of £3m for the contracts, which generated revenue of £4m in the year to March 2010 and employ approximately 86 people. In a statement to the Stock Exchange, the group added that it has continued to trade in line with expectations. However, its dry cleaning business has seen sales fall 5 per cent on a like-for-like basis and as a result the company is to close 20 loss-making branches operated by Johnson Cleaners.
