Commercial District Partnership mulls options
Liverpool Commercial District Partnership is considering forming a Business Improvement District as it seeks to turn a good start into something that will last. Chief executive Paul Rice told Insider: "A Business Improvement District is one of several options we're looking at. It's a natural progression. Although we're certainly getting no members dropping out, it is still a challenge getting new members, so we're looking at ways of making sure everyone gets the benefits for what they put in." The partnership, set up two years ago, has around 40 member organisations in the Old Hall Street area. Under the terms of a BID, businesses pay an additional levy on rates to fund extra services.

LFC hits the land of the free
Bootle-based Liverpool Fabrication Company has advised companies to be proactive in chasing business. Approximately a third of the group's £2.5m annual sales came from the Rolls-Royce gas turbine plant in Bootle, but the group, supported by Merseyside Manufacturing & Automotive Group, went to the new plant in Ohio and secured a continued deal. Managing director Rod Steel said: "There are customers out there - you've got to go and get them. The agreement our guys came back with is likely to exceed the value of the work we were doing for Rolls when they were round the corner."

Tesco leaves Jennifer
While Tesco and Everton prepare to fight for their Kirkby proposals, the supermarket giant has departed the Project Jennifer scheme around Great Homer Street, in which it had been a partner of developer St Modwen. Although St Modwen is in talks with another retailer - and stresses that the scheme is not under threat in any way - a statement from Tesco, which owns land within the scheme, accused the property group of changing the terms of agreement and said it may oppose plans. Negotiations over Project Jennifer have been ongoing for four years.
