Clegg: radical approach will deliver growth
The government has outlined its plan for promoting economic growth across England and helping those that have been hit hardest by the public spending cuts. Business secretary Vince Cable confirmed that four local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) in the North West have been given the green light although Lancashire’s three competing bids have failed. Nick Clegg, the deputy Prime Minister, also launched the £1.4bn regional growth fund. Speaking to Insider, he described the government’s actions as “a radical new approach”.

AstraZeneca strike suspended but profits down
Industrial action at AstraZeneca in Macclesfield has been suspended with talks on an ongoing pensions dispute to resume on Monday, the GMB union says. It comes as the drug manufacturer reported a 25 per cent fall in pre-tax profits for the third quarter.

House prices fall in the region
House prices in England and Wales dropped by 0.2 per cent in September, according to the Land Registry. The average price in the North West fell 0.6 per cent from August to £119,217 - lower than the England and Wales average of £166,769.
