LEP will boost investment, says Anderson
The government has given the green light to the Liverpool city region’s bid to form a local enterprise partnership (LEP). Liverpool City Council leader Joe Anderson, who also chairs the Liverpool City Region Cabinet, welcomed the announcement and said the new public-private sector partnership could help to establish the region as a leading international and national investment location.

Clegg: radical approach will deliver growth
The government has outlined its plan for promoting economic growth across England and helping those that have been hit hardest by the public spending cuts. Business secretary Vince Cable confirmed that four local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) in the North West have been given the green light although Lancashire’s three competing bids have failed. Nick Clegg, the deputy Prime Minister, also launched the £1.4bn regional growth fund. Speaking to Insider, he described the government’s actions as “a radical new approach”.

Profits boost for TJ Hughes
Liverpool-based retailer TJ Hughes has reported rises in profits and sales. Accounts show profits at the business rose to £6.8m for the year to the end of January.

Iprogress reports strong third quarter
Liverpool web design company Iprogress has reported a strong third quarter after landing three new clients and enjoying record growth. The company said it had built turnover by 30 per cent during the period, in which it won work with Courtley, Business Development Academy and 121 Personal Trainer.

Williams Tarr starts £1.5m retail development
Warrington-based Williams Tarr Construction has started work on a new £1.5m retail development in Preston for Carphone Warehouse. The 15,000 sq ft building fronts the A55 on Blackpool Road in the city.

House prices fall in the region
House prices in England and Wales dropped by 0.2 per cent in September, according to the Land Registry. The average price in the North West fell 0.6 per cent from August to £119,217 - lower than the England and Wales average of £166,769.
