Galaxy hot chocolate boosts Aimia profits
Merseyside drinks, soups and confectionery business Aimia Foods, which manufacturers Galaxy and Maltesers hot chocolate powder, has grown its pre-tax profit before exceptional items by 36 per cent in its last financial year. The company, based in Haydock, said the increase stemmed from streamlining its cost base and securing long-term manufacturing partnerships with a string of multinational blue chip businesses.

FSA to wind up three Merseyside businesses
Three Merseyside businesses have been put into provisional liquidation for illegally selling satellite television warranties to consumers. Digital Satellite Warranty Cover (DSWC), Satellite Services and Nationwide Digital Satellite Warranty Services offered Sky TV customers a form of extended warranty.

KPMG confirms Lowry redundancies
Administrators at KPMG have confirmed that nine people have been made redundant at collapsed Salford property company Lowry Homes. However, 17 members of staff have transferred to Prospect (GB), a business owned by Liverpool-based Riverside Group.

Online retailers braced for Manic Monday rush
Online retailers in the North West are bracing themselves for what is predicted to be the busiest internet shopping day of the year. Total spending today, which has been dubbed Manic Monday, is forecast to hit the £537m mark. Richard Chapple, from Cheshire-based The Hut, told Insider the retailer expects to take more than 2,000 orders per minute at peak times and achieve record sales in the run up to Christmas.

University adds to online portfolio
The University of Liverpool has further developed its partnership with US-based e-learning business Laureate Online Education by launching an online advanced degree aimed at professional teachers, administrators and academics. The first intake is timetabled for April next year.

NWAA signs £1.3m shared services deal
The North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) has signed a two-year contract with logistics giant Unipart aimed at providing aerospace companies in the region with cost-cutting shared services. The £1.3m deal is thought to be the first of its kind in the industry.

Lovell gets to work in Wirral
Lovell is set to start work on a £2.1m energy-efficient social housing development in Wirral. The Wirral Council scheme will create 23 new homes on sites owned by the local authority in Seacombe, Bebington and Prenton.

House prices fall in the North West
House prices have fallen in the North West, according to data from the Land Registry. The average price in the region dropped to £117,868 in October - a 0.8 per cent drop since October 2009 and a 1 per cent decrease on the previous month.
