A record number of women in Merseyside are seeking support to set up their own businesses, according to women’s enterprise and employment centre Train 2000. But the organisation’s Maggie O’Carroll has voiced concerns that many new companies could flounder once government cuts take hold.

EPIC plans in Ellesmere Port
Proposals have been drawn up to replace Ellesmere Port’s ageing EPIC Leisure Centre with a new £10.8m sports and events site. The arena would have a 12-court sports hall, swimming pool and gym. It would also act as an entertainment arena for major sporting tournaments, concerts and events, accommodating up to 2,000 spectators.

Santander to create 400 new jobs
Spanish bank Santander is to create 400 call centre jobs in the UK at sites in Liverpool, Glasgow and Leicester. The employees will be in place by the end of March next year.
