US still the land of opportunity, say entrepreneurs
North America is continuing to offer opportunities for North West businesses, Insider’s latest international trade breakfast was told. Other than the sheer scale of a market that speaks English and, for all the scorn poured on the phrase in certain quarters, speakers expressed how the region continues to have a special relationship with the UK and is an easy place to set up and scale workforce requirements. The event was held in association with UK Trade & Investment.

New leaf at paper company
Thirty jobs have been saved at The Crimped Paper Works in Chapel-en-le-Frith after the business and assets of the company were bought from administration. Manchester packaging business Doric Anderton acquired the company from administrators at Leonard Curtis for an undisclosed sum.

Entologi acquires remaining Hatch stake
Engineering group Entologi, based in Congleton, has completed the acquisition of Hatch Science, a US-based pharmaceutical testing business, for £600,000.

Region hit by further job cuts
The region’s jobs market has been dealt another blow this morning with the confirmation that Liverpool City Council is set to shed about 1,500 jobs following government cuts to its budget. The announcement follows news that broadband provider TalkTalk is to axe about 580 jobs as part of a plan to save £50m, with sites in Warrington, Irlam and Preston affected.

Deloitte appointed to Total Asset Finance
Warrington-headquartered asset based lender Total Asset Finance has gone into administration. The company provides finance to small businesses and public sector bodies via the funding of receivables, plant and machinery, IT and vendor finance.

JJB Sports rapped by FSA
Wigan retailer JJB Sports has been fined £455,000 by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) for failing to disclose information to the market about the true cost of two acquisitions.

Ener-g set for jobs drive
Salford renewable energy technology company Ener-g will this morning reveal details of its planned expansion programme in 2011 as it looks to take on 100 employees.
