Steinberg: Shanghai will pay off

Cammell Laird forms nuclear partnership with Nuvia
Two businesses in the North West have formed a partnership agreement to “catapult” them to the forefront of the UK’s multibillion pound new nuclear build programme. Merseyside shipbuilder Cammell Laird will work with Warrington nuclear engineering business Nuvia to bid for contracts for the fabrication of heavy modules and components for new nuclear plants.

Loftus pleased with Deloitte performance
Revenues have dipped slightly at the North West practice of accountancy firm Deloitte. But the firm said each of its divisions performed strongly given the context of the economic environment. Senior partner Patrick Loftus said the results were “very satisfactory” and the North West team could be “cautiously optimistic” about the year ahead.

JLA braced for record weekend
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA) is predicting the forthcoming bank holiday weekend will be the busiest of the year, with about 74,000 passengers expected to be travelling through the airport. Earlier this week it was confirmed the airport has moved up to eighth place in the league table of the busiest UK airports.

Government changes boost solar business
A record number of UK homeowners had solar panels installed this month, according to new figures published by energy regulator Ofgem. And the impact is being felt among businesses in the region, with one Southport company being “overwhelmed” with orders only five months since its launch.

Halton makes case for Mersey Gateway
Halton Borough Council has revealed its proposals to fund a new bridge over the River Mersey to link Runcorn and Widnes in a bid to win government backing. The council’s Mersey Gateway submission to the government’s spending review contains plans on how the six-lane toll bridge will be funded and the benefits it will bring to the region.

Brown Turner Ross launches new department
Law firm Brown Turner Ross, which is based in Liverpool and Southport, has launched a new department after taking over the legal management of more than 550 new build property files. The move is expected to boost revenues by £200,000 over the next 12 months.
