Bromborough oil refinery sale hits stumbling block
The sale of an oil refinery in Bromborough is in doubt after the potential buyer failed to come up with the cash. Biofuels business D1 Oils, which owns the site, agreed a £2.6m deal with an unnamed buyer in February, with the money due to be paid on completion. However, on 16 June it was informed of certain “issues” that could affect the timing and structure sale. D1 Oils has since proposed a deal involving a £1.8m cash payment and two further £400,000 staged payments, but was yesterday told by the buyer that there was a “material risk” that it would still not be able to meet the obligations. In a statement to the Stock Exchange, D1 Oils said: “Unless satisfactory completion occurs within this short period, the board intends to remarket Bromborough against a backdrop of improving fundamentals for the UK biodiesel industry.”

Canapé won’t pay
This week’s highlight came, not surprisingly, at the Food Northwest Awards, with a micro-cooked breakfast stealing the show – a circle of white toast topped with black pudding, egg and bacon flakes. Pastries were on the go at the launch of the Morgan Foundation Entrepreneur Awards, while Birkenhead’s own Pickled Walnut sparkled as ING launched office space in Manchester’s Royal Mill, providing oak smoked bacon and Cumberland sausage butties with home-made relish.
