Lucid rises from Bizarre ashes
A new games developer has risen out of the ashes of studio Bizarre Creations - one week after the company was closed by its US owner Activision. Lucid Games has been founded by Bizarre’s former development director Pete Wallace and other senior management members. It hopes to create more than 50 jobs.

Kingdom Security expands into Yorkshire with deal
St Helens-based Kingdom Security has expanded into Yorkshire by buying Selby-based security services business Group Response Global out of administration. The deal means 100 of the 112 jobs at GRG were saved.

Accountancy firms confirm merger
Liverpool accountancy firm Bresnan Walsh, which operates from offices in Temple Square and Cunard Building, has merged with rival Macfarlane + Co. A new company called BWMacfarlane has been formed, employing almost 50 members of staff.

Wirral Council still backs business
Despite budget cuts of £40m and 1,100 associated job losses, Wirral Council has said it is still committed to business in the region. According to the council, measures included in its proposed budget will safeguard 925 jobs in the region and secure £16m of additional private sector investment.

Energetix subsidiary Pnu Power, based in Chester, has won a new order from National Grid Electricity Transmission. It’s the fourth order the company has won from the National Grid in the UK and US.

Lack of big deals hits Liverpool take-up
Liverpool’s office market showed some “encouraging signs” in 2010 although take-up was down on the previous year, according to a new report published by Liverpool Vision and Professional Liverpool.

ACL commits to Princes Dock
North Atlantic shipping company ACL has extended its lease at Princes Dock in Liverpool. The company has agreed to take 12,942 sq ft at Peel’s No 8 Princes Dock building for a further four years.

Balfour Beatty signs £48m fire station deal
Construction giant Balfour Beatty has reached financial close for a £48m North West Fire & Rescue Services public private partnership project. The 25-year concession will involve the design, construction, funding and provision of facilities management for 16 community fire stations, of which seven are in Merseyside, five in Cumbria, and four in Lancashire.
