AFM ready to invest £25m pot
The team behind the Merseyside Loan and Equity Fund yesterday made a bold statement of intent for its new £25m investment pot. Speaking at a launch event in Liverpool yesterday Lisa Greenhalgh, chief operating officer of fund manager AFM, said: “There is a definite need for this money – I don’t think we’ll have a problem investing it.”

Proventec secures restructuring approval
Liverpool steam cleaning and coatings business Proventec, whose shares on AIM were suspended in July pending clarification of the company’s financial position, has moved closer to resolving its funding problems.

United Utilities ahead of expectations
North West water services giant United Utilities (UU) has delivered a set of results slightly ahead of management expectations in the half-year to 30 September, despite underlying profit before tax falling to £196.2m, down from £258.2m the year before. Chief executive Philip Green, who this week confirmed he is to step down from the role, said the business was “confident of delivering outperformance” over the next five years.

Chemicals Northwest in CIA talks
Chemicals Northwest, the region’s chemical cluster support organisation, is in talks with the Chemical Industries Association (CIA) about becoming an official arm of the organisation. The future of Chemicals Northwest has been in doubt following budget cuts by the Northwest Regional Development Agency.

Pottinger leaves Sportech
Piers Pottinger, the chairman of Liverpool football pools operator Sportech, has resigned from the role after four years with the business. He will be replaced by senior independent non-executive director John Barnes.

Work to start at Liverpool Science Park
Work on the £660,000 redevelopment of Liverpool Science Park’s ic2 building is set to begin this week. The scheme will add 5,000 sq ft of much-needed commercial laboratory space to the site.

CPUK appointed on £2.6m care scheme
Skelmersdale-headquartered Construction Partnership UK (CPUK) has won a contract to build a £2.6m care centre in Accrington. The 46-bedroom building for Springhill Care will provide specialist dementia care.
