Businesses deliver Budget demands
North West business leaders have called on Chancellor and Tatton MP George Osborne to deliver a pro-enterprise Budget that is “clear, bold and decisive” and will help to stimulate growth and restore business confidence in the region. Osborne is being urged to implement measures that will cut regulation and taxes, boost exports and support lending.

JJB agrees rescue deal with landlords
Wigan retailer JJB Sports has secured backing from its landlords to close up to 89 stores and slash rents across its portfolio. More than 75 per cent of JJB’s creditors voted in favour of the Company Voluntary Arrangement.

Mediterranean restaurant chain Ego Restaurants, based in Bolton, is to merge with pizza business Rocket Restaurants under a new umbrella company called 3Sixty Restaurants.

Betfred wraps up bingo deal
Warrington betting giant Betfred has bought the online bingo brand BuckyBingo.com and sister brand Bogoffbingo.com. The deal follows the break-up and sale of Manchester-based bingo club operator Buckingham Bingo.

United’s parent reports £109m loss
Manchester United’s parent company made a loss of £108.9m in year to 30 June 2010, according to accounts filed at Companies House. Red Football Joint Venture is the parent company of United’s owners, the Glazer family.

Demolition work has begun on Kingsbury School in Skelmersdale to make way for an adult respite centre. Conlon Construction has been appointed to deliver the new £1.2m West Lancashire Adult Respite Centre which will accommodate residents with learning disabilities.
