We must improve Liverpool rail links - Stopforth
The rail line between Manchester and Liverpool was "probably quicker in 1830" than it is now. That's according to Jack Stopforth, the chief executive of Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, who has joined Insider's calls to improve rail travel in the North West. It comes as Graham Botham, the programme sponsor for Network Rail's £530m Northern Hub project, has raised suspicions that the region has been overlooked on infrastructure decisions in favour of London and the South East.

DLA advises on £82m property deal
The Liverpool office of law firm DLA Piper has advised on the £82m acquisition of Dolphin Shopping Centre in Poole by Wereldhave, the Dutch real estate investment company. Wereldhave bought the centre from Liverpool One owner Grosvenor in a deal which exceeded the £80m asking price.

A large B&Q outlet in Crewe has been bought by London-based property company Delancey as part of a reported £900m deal.

Mace & Jones cleared in negligence case
The High Court has dismissed a £40m negligence claim brought against North West law firm Mace & Jones. After a trial in the Technology and Construction Court before Mr Justice Coulson, judgement was handed down in D Morgan PLC v Mace & Jones in which the judge rejected any negligence causative of loss and found no merit in the claim for loss of profits. The claim related to planning issues surrounding the Bold Heath Quarry site in St Helens.

MSoft in South West hospital deals
Ellesmere Port-based technology software business MSoft has signed deals to install blood tracking systems for health providers in the South West.

North/south divide for insolvencies
The rate of company insolvencies is falling in the North West, according to research carried out by information services business Experian. But the rate is much higher than in southern regions leading to the claim there is a "north/south divide" in the overall level of insolvencies.

North West small businesses are facing a "nightmare" as they will have to pay a form of contribution to pensions, business adviser RSM Tenon has warned. It reports that 52 per cent of North West business owners do not have pension schemes for their employees.
