Demand for Liverpool hotels hits record levels
Demand for hotel rooms in Liverpool reached record-breaking levels during July with almost 95,000 rooms being sold, according to new research published today by The Mersey Partnership (TMP). The figure represents a 22 per cent rise on the 78,000 rooms booked in July 2009 and an 11 per cent increase on the 86,000 in 2008.

Liverpool Marina acquires boat show stake
Liverpool Marina’s main shareholder David Beard and the company’s operational director Dave Murray have taken a 20 per cent share in Marine Industry Events – the business behind the Liverpool Boat Show. Beard and Murray have made a £250,000 cash investment in the business.

AIM activity to pick up next year
The AIM market will bottom out in the second half of 2010 with only 1,200 companies listed, according to analysis by Deloitte. The business consultancy said that following 30 consecutive months of declining numbers on the junior market, it will reach its lowest point by the end of the year before kick-starting activity into 2011.

Tate Liverpool and war museum attract overseas tourists
Museums and galleries in the North West are attracting huge amounts in revenue from overseas tourists, according to a VisitBritain survey. The Tate Liverpool and Imperial War Museum in Manchester were named as money-spinning attractions for the region.

LEPs could become talking shops, warns Collinson
The concept of local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) could be “fundamentally flawed” and lack any real credibility with businesses, a lobbying group has warned. Len Collinson, the leader of Private Sector Partners, told Insider the jury will remain out on the value of LEPs until the government clarifies their roles and powers. He said it was a “high probability” they would become little more than talking shops with the vast majority of regional development agency (RDA) powers transferring to central government.

BDP to carry out Rossendale study
Rossendale Council has appointed a team led by BDP's Liverpool studio to carry out a regeneration study of Rawtenstall town centre. BDP will lead a team comprising GH Regeneration and JMP to examine the viability of redeveloping the town centre and to produce a masterplan for the market town.

Four out of ten ex-Woolworths still empty in North West
The occupancy rate of ex-Woolworths stores in the North West rose 21 per cent between July 2009 to July 2010, according to a report by The Local Data Company. But 41 per cent of stores are still unoccupied.
