Broomhead worries over regional power shift
Steven Broomhead, the former chief executive of the Northwest Regional Development Agency, has warned that the North West’s future prosperity could be damaged if more regional powers are transferred to Whitehall. Speaking to Insider, he also questioned the speed in which the government axed regional development agencies, saying the transition to local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) should have been a gradual and piloted approach.

FC United share scheme raises £1m
FC United of Manchester say they have raised £1m from a community shares scheme introduced less than three months ago. The funds are set to go towards a £3.5m stadium proposed for Ten Acres Lane in Newton Heath. The shares scheme is now only a third of the way off its £1.5m target.

Leyland-based commercial vehicle group Leyland Holding Company has bought Trafford Park-based Hulme Group from administration saving 32 jobs.

Funding deal seals Andrews Bowen Qatar contract
Fylde-based Andrews Bowen has won an export contract in the Middle East. It is to provide equestrian surfacing for the new Al Shaqab Equestrian Academy in Qatar. NatWest says it provided Andrews Bowen with a "six figure working capital facility" and letter of credit to help secure the contract.

Northwich-headquartered executive search business Warren Partners has said its merger with London-based Atticus Partnership will boost its growth strategy by drawing on the experience and skills of Atticus’ managing director Marcus Lorenzo.

£185m North West Fund opens
The £185m North West Fund has opened and is ready to make investments. The public fund, one of the largest of its kind in Europe, is aiming to improve the region’s economic performance by an estimated £700m. Under EU rules, 40 per cent of the funds have to be invested in companies on Merseyside.
