Liverpool set for £5m MOBO boost
Liverpool is set for a £5m economic boost as the city plays host to the 15th annual MOBO Awards tonight. The ceremony, which takes place at the ACC Liverpool, recognises and celebrates artists who perform black music. It is only the second time the MOBOs have taken place outside London since they were established by Kanya King in 1995.

New deli backed by EFG loan
Delifonseca’s second store in Liverpool was backed by a £60,000 enterprise finance guarantee (EFG) loan from NatWest, it has been confirmed. The a new 5,000 sq ft eatery on Brunswick Dock features a large food hall, a 60-seat restaurant and a shop run by Sefton-based Brough’s Butchers.

North West braced for public spending cuts
Chancellor and Tatton MP George Osborne will today announce the full details of the eagerly-awaited spending review to provide details of how Whitehall departments will reduce their budgets over the next four years. Danny Alexander, the chief secretary to the Treasury, has already inadvertently revealed that 490,000 public sector jobs are to be lost by 2014-15 as the coalition government looks to cut spending by £83bn. Some business leaders in the North West have welcomed the proposed measures to tackle Britain's deficit, while others have warned the cuts could damage economic recovery.

May the force be with LJMU
Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Merseyside Police in an effort to formalise links between the organisations. The two have worked on collaborative projects in the past, with Merseyside Police testing patented signature analysis technology developed by LJMU spin-out company Forsigs earlier this year.

No fraud charges for JJB and Sports Direct
The Serious Fraud Office will bring no charges against Wigan-based JJB Sports and Shirebrook-headquartered Sports Direct International, it has been announced. But the SFO says it is still investigating individuals over an alleged cartel.

Stobart lowers profit expectations
North West transport and logistics giant Stobart Group has posted a 39 per cent increase in pre-tax profits for the six months to 31 August, but warned that today’s spending review and the increase VAT rate could hit volumes next year. It has “slightly reduced” its full-year profit expectations as a result.

Cloud computing to become an unstoppable force
Cloud computing will become an unstoppable force as users begin to realise the benefits of hosted services. That was the message at yesterday’s Insider breakfast held at 1 New York Street in Manchester. Jeremy Gidlow, managing director of internet performance company Intechnica told the audience that using a shared pool of computing resources would reduce the outgoings associated with physical servers.
