Liverpool set for enterprise spotlight
The spotlight will be on Liverpool later today as the city hosts the final of Your Big Year, a worldwide not-for-profit enterprise competition that is being held as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week. The event has been organised by Liverpool businessman Chris Arnold. He told Insider the overall winners will meet world leaders, innovators and inspirational entrepreneurs over the course of the next year to promote enterprise. The two winners will also act as ambassadors for Liverpool.

Investec to sell Rensburg arm
The fund management business owned by Rensburg Sheppards, the investment management company which was founded by Henry Rensburg in Liverpool in 1873, is to be sold to Franklin Templeton for £45m.

Qire rejects $10m takeover
Liverpool technology company Qire has rejected a $10m takeover deal from an unnamed US company after more than six months of negotiations. Chief executive Guy Cooper told Insider the business chose to stay independent in order to fulfil its “global potential”.

Millar scoops top Livercool award
Parr Street Studios’ Gary Millar was last night named Business Personality of the Year at the annual Livercool awards, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Liverpool. The awards, attended by more than 400 guests, were organised by Downtown Liverpool in Business.

LIPA secures franchise accreditation
LIPA 4:19, the stage school franchise of the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, has become a member of the British Franchise Association (BFA). LIPA 4:19’s principal Kerry Watkins said the accreditation will support its search for new franchisees as it looks to increase its number of sites in 2011.

Balfour Beatty moves for Rok units
Infrastructure group Balfour Beatty has acquired segments of Rok's affordable housing and general construction division for £7m, of which £4m has been paid in cash. The deal includes Rok’s social housing arm in the North West.
