Speedy reports improvements despite widening losses
Merseyside plant hire specialist Speedy Hire this morning reported “progressive improvement” in its key markets despite falling turnover and widening losses. The company posted a 4.1 per cent dip in turnover to £177.3m for the six months to 30 September, while pre-tax losses before exceptional items widened from £7.6m last year to £12.7m.

The Northwest Business Angels network, which offers North West companies the chance of securing an investment of between £10,000 and £500,000, is seeking more potential investors to join the scheme.

Eatonfield buys more time
Cash-strapped property developer Eatonfield, based in Cheshire, appears to have bought more time in its bid to stave off the threat of administration. The Cheshire-based company said it has struck a deal with certain creditors to defer payment of outstanding invoices to a later date.

Liverpool Council confirms Neptune deal
Liverpool City Council has struck a deal with David Ramsey, the owner of the city’s historic Neptune theatre, to extend the council’s underlease of the venue from three years to 12. The deal follows years of legal stalemate.

Manchester Airport starts biometrics trial
Manchester Airport’s passengers are being invited to participate in a new technology trial that can recognise an individual’s iris while they walk around. The Biometrics In Motion trial has been developed by Liverpool-based Human Recognition Systems (HRS) and will run for the next two weeks.

Rok jobs set to go in the North West
Administrators to collapsed building services business Rok have confirmed that more than 300 people are to be made redundant in the North West after talks to rescue the group’s core maintenance and improvements business failed.

Everton’s £9m plans win approval
Liverpool City Council’s planning committee has given the go-ahead for a £9m development at Everton FC’s Goodison Park stadium. The new facility will be built on the site of the Club Everton lounge at the Park End of the stadium and will house a 9,700 sq ft retail store, museum, cafe, a fan-focused hospitality lounge and office space.

Nobles on board at Speke bus depot
Liverpool-based Nobles Construction has been awarded a £2.4m building and civil engineering contract with transport giant Arriva. The contract forms part of a £3.9m investment by Arriva to redevelop its Speke bus depot.

St Nicholas House sold for £2.2m
Acting on behalf of a private investor, Matthews & Goodman has acquired St Nicholas House in Liverpool for £2.2m. The 24,280 sq ft office building was sold by Merseyside Pension Fund and was the first freehold office transaction in the city for more than a year.
