Liverpool reveals London ‘embassy’ plans
Liverpool Council has this morning revealed further details of its plans to promote the city’s commercial and business offer to UK and overseas investors. The authority, determined to build on momentum created by the city’s presence at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, will open The Liverpool Embassy in London on 21 January 2011.

Waste management company Environmental Controls is doubling its central operations by opening a new site on the Knowsley Business Park in Merseyside.

Plans for a new £2m plaza to be built around Chester Cathedral are to be submitted in the new year, designed to “create the ideal setting for Chester‘s top tourist attraction”.

Solid year for KPMG, but Hurst warns on public cuts
Accountancy firm KPMG's northern practice has reported annual revenue growth of 6.6 per cent in what chairman Jonathan Hurst has described as a "tough but solid" year for the company. Speaking to Insider, he paid tribute to the firm's 1,600 staff across its five offices in the North. However, he warned that the knock-on effect of public sector cuts would make life difficult for professional service firms in 2011.

Easyjet launches ski routes
Budget airline Easyjet has launched the first of its new ski routes from Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The airline’s new weekly service to Salzburg starts today, followed by twice-weekly services to Lyon on 18 December and Grenoble on 8 January.

ACC one of UK’s ten best venues
ACC Liverpool has been named as one of the UK’s top ten venues in an industry poll. The venue moves up to ninth from a ranking of 12th last year.

Red tape and unpaid bills hit exporting businesses
More than a third of small businesses which export goods are put off by bureaucracy, a survey by the Federation of Small Businesses has found. Almost half said they were frustrated by fluctuating exchange rates with a quarter put off by the prospect of unpaid bills.
