US car parts manufacturer Delphi has confirmed it is in discussions with unions and employees over the future of its site in Merseyside. Unite has warned that more than 180 people could be made redundant if the electronics factory is closed.

Bank lending falls further, finds Absolute
Absolute Invoice Finance has called for the government to "iron out the problems" within its Enterprise Finance Guarantee (EFG) scheme after bank lending to small and medium-sized business fell by a further 20 per cent in the last quarter. Darren Cottenden, regional managing director of Absolute Invoice Finance in the North West, said that small and medium sized businesses need the government to "act now and incentivise lenders".

MBNA job cuts ‘could total 160’
The restructuring at MBNA in Chester could eventually lead to a total of about 160 jobs being lost. Its credit, customer assistance and marketing departments are currently in a collective consultation, a spokesman has confirmed.

Law firms named on LUPC framework
North West law firms Mace & Jones and Cobbetts have won a place on the London Universities Purchasing Consortium’s (LUPC) approved framework. The approval will allow them to bid to supply legal services to more than 60 LUPC members across the capital.

Comfortable first-half for Mechan
Safety switch manufacturer Mechan Controls has revealed turnover and full-year profit should be “comfortably ahead” of last year after a confident first-half. The Skelmersdale company, which appointed international consultancy Thames Classique last month in a bid to crack the Chinese market, said turnover is ahead by 4.5 per cent.

Nutrition Point strikes Dialachemist deal
Warrington’s Nutrition Point and Dialachemist.com, a national online pharmacy which is based in Accrington, have launched a new service which offers customers the chance to have gluten and wheat-free foods delivered directly to their door along with prescriptions.

Northern Feather (Home Furnishings) has signed a new lease on part of a unit at Martland Park, Wigan, to be used as a storage and distribution centre. The facility is owned and part occupied by Ferplast UK.

DTZ man calls for more industrial sites
Industrial take-up in the North West reached 1.85 million sq ft in the second quarter of the year according to the latest DTZ Research UK Property Times industrial market report. It said overall availability in the region fell 5 per cent, reflecting a clutch of large grade B deals and the lack of new development.

IPD reports full year of capital growth for UK property
The commercial property market has completed a full year of positive capital growth, according to research body IPD’s UK Monthly Index for July. The report says markets have risen by 15.4 per cent since August 2009. But in July, the market returned just 0.2 per cent capital growth - matching the figure which kick-started the recovery at the end of last summer.
