Daresbury makes £8m funding bid
Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus (DSIC) has made a bid to the government’s £1.4bn Regional Growth Fund (RGF) as it looks to secure £8m in funding. DSIC said the cash would support the delivery of 493,000 sq ft of science and innovation space, create some 3,200 jobs and generate around £114m of gross value added once plots opened up by the investment are developed. Stephen Barnes, development director at Langtree, told Insider the scheme presents one of the best opportunities to stimulate private sector jobs in the North West.

MIE pulls plug on Liverpool Boat Show

Marine Industry Events (MIE) said it had been forced to cancel the show due to the "disastrous market conditions" and poor take-up of exhibitors.

CashMyGold rapped by watchdog
The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has clamped down on gold-buying websites, ordering Manchester-based Bullion Buying, which trades as CashMyGold, to improve the way it treats customers. The watchdog raised concerns that people were “locked into” accepting the offer that had been made for their gold.

GMB warns on public sector jobs
The private sector will have to find jobs for almost 30,000 public sector employees facing the axe across the North West. That's the warning coming from the GMB union, which claims more than 160,000 public sector jobs are at risk nationally following spending cuts.
