Liverpool vow to fight new injunction
There was yet another dramatic twist in the Liverpool FC takeover saga last night as current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett obtained a temporary injunction in a Texas District Court to halt the £300m sale to New England Sports Ventures (NESV). The duo called the sale an “epic swindle” and are seeking around £1bn in damages. The club have reacted by saying the move is “unwarranted and damaging” and they will move “as swiftly as possible” to have the injunction removed.

Sky Medical secures angel’s cash
Sky Medical has secured an undisclosed investment package from Mark Gidge, a partner at Cheshire-based Independent Capital Investments, that will enable it to commercialise its patented technology used to help combat deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Hough pays tribute to Broomhead work
The chairman of the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has paid tribute to chief executive Steven Broomhead, who is to step down from his role at the end of the month. Following the announcement at yesterday’s annual general meeting at the University of Manchester, Robert Hough said it was a day to reflect on Broomhead’s achievements during nearly eight years at the helm of the RDA.

Lloyds sheds IT jobs
Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) is cutting a number of jobs across the north of England in its IT function. Some 280 will go in Chester area, more than 200 in Halifax and about 50 in Pudsey, according to unions.

Economist warns on slow growth
The UK should avoid a double dip recession but economic growth will be slow, according to a senior economic adviser at the Royal Bank of Scotland. Speaking at the Tate Gallery in Liverpool, Mark Smyth said the downturn has been the “deepest and most severe” since 1955.
