Burton's urged to rethink Wirral closure
Merseyside MP Angela Eagle has called on Parliament to debate the future of Burton's Biscuits in Moreton following the company's decision to close the site with the loss of all 342 jobs. Wirral Council leader Jeff Green has also vowed to investigate "whatever opportunities" are available to keep the factory open, while Wirral Chamber’s chief executive Kenneth Davies told Insider the news “casts serious doubt” on the ability of Wirral businesses to lead the economic revival.

Acquisitions of insolvent businesses in the North West fell in the second half of 2010, according to research by Experian Corpfin on behalf of the insolvency trade body R3. But the statistics show that distressed deals continue to account for a significant proportion of all M&A activity in the region.

Appetite returns for tech deals, says PwC
A new report by PwC has found there is a “window of opportunity” for technology M&A activity, driven by the alignment of cash-rich trade buyers, private equity sponsors with funds to invest and continued improvement in financing liquidity. Jonathan Cooper, PwC partner in Manchester, said there will be a change in deal dynamics as appetite returns.

Colliers to lead Ellesmere Port techno park team
Cheshire West & Chester Council has appointed Colliers International to create an Area Development Framework (ADF) for land and buildings around Ellesmere Port’s New Bridge Road. The ADF will set out a vision for the development and regeneration of the 60-hectare (148 acres) site for which the current ambition is to develop it into a green technology park.
