North West councils facing swingeing cuts
Local authorities across the North West are today facing up to collective cuts of more than £500m to their 'spending power', according to figures published by the government. Councils in Manchester, Liverpool, Preston and Blackburn are among the English authorities that have been hit hardest by the spending reduction.

APS goes Dutch with Relate4U deal
Cheshire marketing services provider APS Group has expanded its European footprint with the acquisition of a Dutch rival. The business has bought Eindhoven-based marketing, design and print management company Relate4U for an undisclosed sum.

Peak time for adventure company

Salford-headquartered mobile communications business 2ergo has slipped to a loss in its last financial year although the company said it is in a “healthy position to capitalise on excellent market opportunities” following series of investments.

Revenues up at Renovo
Biotechnology firm Renovo Group, the developer of anti-scarring and scar prevention treatments, has reported soaring revenues in the year to 30 September after securing an upfront payment from a licence agreement.

TEG secures anaerobic digestion funding
The London Waste and Recycling Board (LTGDC) is to provide £1.9m towards London’s first anaerobic digestion (AD) plant, being developed by Chorley organic waste business TEG Group.

Cargill invests £10m in Liverpool plant
International food producer Cargill has invested £10m at its vegetable oil processing business in Liverpool. The group said this has allowed it to reduce energy consumption by 25 per cent and water usage by 30 per cent.

FWP tees off with £4m Fylde hotel
Architecture and design practice The Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP) has won a contract to design and manage the £4m expansion of a country house hotel on the Fylde Coast. It’s hoped the work at The Villa in Wrea Green, near Blackpool, can be completed in time for the Open Golf Championship in neighbouring Lytham in 2012.

DTZ completes Burnley study
DTZ has completed a market demand study for an education and enterprise park in Burnley, adjacent to the £80m University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) campus in the town. The report has concluded the scheme has the potential to be the “foremost enterprise centre” in Pennine Lancashire.
