Vision+Media in coalition call
The chief executive of Vision+Media, the organisation set up to support digital and creative businesses in the North West, has called on the coalition government to follow through on its manifesto pledge to support the sector. Alice Morrison told Insider that Whitehall needed to "put its money where its mouth is".

Cameron urges cities to follow Liverpool’s lead
Prime Minister David Cameron has singled out Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture as a major example of how tourism can help bring economic success. Speaking at the Serpentine Gallery in central London to an audience of industry professionals, he called on other cities in the UK to adopt the same approach to Liverpool and put tourism at the heart of their growth strategies.

Admiral to open Manchester base
Newcastle PR agency Admiral is to expand into the North West with a new office in Manchester. The company, which already has clients in the region, expects the move will create ten new jobs over the next two years. It will open its office in The Old Bank in Chapel Street on 1 September.

Turnaround continues at Vauxhall parent
Vauxhall’s parent company General Motors (GM) has reported net earnings of $1.3bn (£830m) for the three months to the end of June, marking the second successive profitable quarter for the car giant. The results mark the “sustained progress” in the turnaround of the company after it posted massive losses last year.

Ward Hadaway heads to Sharp Project
Law firm Ward Hadaway has moved members of its creative industries team to Manchester’s digital and creative hub The Sharp Project. The firm, which has main offices in Leeds and Newcastle, has taken up space alongside the first 25 creative companies on site in one of the first completed phases of the building.

Willmott Dixon secures £11.5m contract
Rochdale Council has awarded Willmott Dixon Construction a £11.5m contract to build a leisure centre in the town. The complex, to be developed on part of an Entwistle Road site near the River Roch, will include a 25m swimming pool, gym, sports hall and community facilities.

Marsh deal completes at Belvedere
The deal to take insurance group Marsh to Manchester’s Belvedere building has been completed, Insider understands. As previously reported, Marsh has been in talks to take 40,000 sq ft at the scheme, developed by Wilson Bowden and now owned by Orchard Street Investment Management.

Partnership Projects in Scottish sale
Bamber Bridge-based Partnership Projects has sold three units at its Panorama Business Village in Glasgow to dental supplier Lincoln Ceramics for £570,000. Having sold its South Preston Office Village and Rossmore Business Village in Ellesmere Port, it now has unsold units in Scotland, Yorkshire and Merseyside.
