Cameron urges cities to follow Liverpool’s lead
Prime Minister David Cameron has singled out Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture as a major example of how tourism can help bring economic success. Speaking at the Serpentine Gallery in central London to an audience of industry professionals, he called on other cities in the UK to adopt the same approach to Liverpool and put tourism at the heart of their growth strategies.

Turnaround continues at Vauxhall parent
Vauxhall’s parent company General Motors (GM) has reported net earnings of $1.3bn (£830m) for the three months to the end of June, marking the second successive profitable quarter for the car giant. The results mark the “sustained progress” in the turnaround of the company after it posted massive losses last year.

Golfers to rumble in Liverpool One jungle
Jungle Rumble, an indoor crazy golf centre styled as an “adventure golf course”, is to open in Liverpool One’s Galleria. The centre will occupy 17,200 sq ft adjacent to the scheme’s leisure terrace, complementing the Odeon cinema which recently opened an IMAX Experience screen.

Construction starts on £90m university building
The first phase of construction has started on the University of Liverpool’s £90m research laboratory building. The development, close to the Royal Liverpool Hospital, was funded by the university and the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

Partnership Projects in Scottish sale
Bamber Bridge-based Partnership Projects has sold three units at its Panorama Business Village in Glasgow to dental supplier Lincoln Ceramics for £570,000. Having sold its South Preston Office Village and Rossmore Business Village in Ellesmere Port, it now has unsold units in Scotland, Yorkshire and Merseyside.
