Shipbuilding renaissance continues at Cammell Laird
Merseyside shipbuilder Cammell Laird has reported a year of “substantial growth” during which it grew turnover to more than £93m and secured a £44m contract to build sections of the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier. The business, which employs about 600 people from its Birkenhead base, also reported a 9 per cent increase in pre-tax profits to £10.2m.

Councillors from three political parties have agreed to work together from today to examine Liverpool City Council’s spending proposals. The ruling Labour administration, the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party have signed up to be part of the budget setting process as the authority grapples with a £91m spending reduction over the next year.

Liverpool service sector gives 'cause for concern'
A decline in service sector sales has been reported for the second consecutive quarter in the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Economic Survey. There has also been a "marked acceleration" in the decline of orders, the chamber said.

Great time to be a fraudster, says Salmon
The fall in the total number of North West fraud cases in 2010 proves the chance of fraudsters being caught and convicted is more remote than ever, according to Graham Salmon, head of fraud at Beever and Struthers. His comments follow a study by accountancy firm KPMG which showed the number of cases in the region fell from 38 in 2009 to 29 in 2010, while the value of cases more than halved from £61.9m to £28.8m.
