£18m cuts at Liverpool John Moores
Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is set to cut its annual budget by 20 per cent in the next two years to cope with spending cuts in higher education. Speaking to Insider, vice-chancellor Michael Brown said that £9m would be taken out of the institution’s cost base during the next financial year with the same figure planned for 2011/12.

Bibby Distribution buys MRS assets
Liverpool-headquartered Bibby Distribution has continued to expand by purchasing assets of collapsed haulage operator MRS Distribution from administrators KPMG. Bibby has taken over two large contracts with packaging manufacturer Board 24 and industrial packaging firm Greif UK.

A survey by Yorkshire Bank has found more than half of North West companies plan to reinvest at least 6 per cent of turnover back into their business over the next year but lending is still hampering growth.

Increased consumption should boost revenues for Wrexham water company Dee Valley Group, the business has revealed. The company said turnover for the first quarter since 1 April was higher than budgeted.

QVC helps drive Liberty revenues
QVC UK, which employs more than 1,300 people in Knowsley, has helped to increase revenues for US parent company Liberty Media Corporation. The home shopping channel’s worldwide revenues increased 5 per cent, with sales in the UK up 8 per cent.

Liverpool Waters could be compromised, says Chadwick
Mark Chadwick, the chief executive of Professional Liverpool, has warned the multibillion-pound Liverpool Waters scheme is in danger of being “unnecessarily compromised” after developer Peel Holdings was forced to scale back its plans.

Skelmersdale contractor Construction Partnership UK (CPUK) is set to begin work on the second phase of a new care home in Southport. The business has completed £5m of health projects in the North West this year and will be onsite this month to complete a centre for excellence for dementia care in the UK.

Annyalla Chicks into Wrexham
Poultry producer Annyalla Chicks has opened its first site in the UK after taking an 85,000 sq ft food production unit at Wrexham Industrial Estate. The Irish company has taken the former Delta Daily Foods site in Abenbury Way on an existing 12-year lease.

Gardner flies into Hawarden
Hawarden Business Park in Deeside, the long-term joint venture between UK Land & Property/Pochin and the Welsh Assembly Government, has secured a letting to Gardner Aerospace. The aerospace metallic manufactured details supplier has taken the 25,000 sq ft unit on a 15-year lease.
