Simon Property abandons £2.9bn CSC bid
Simon Property Group, the largest US shopping mall owner, has abandoned its £2.9bn bid to buy Capital Shopping Centres (CSC) saying CSC did not provide it with the information it needed to proceed. The move leaves North West property giant Peel Holdings in the driving seat to sell its £1.6bn Trafford Centre in Manchester to CSC and in turn take a 23.2 per cent stake in the company.

Tradebe swoops for Britcare
International environmental business Tradebe, which has a UK headquarters in Sandycroft, near Chester, has acquired Britcare, the clinical waste company. Britcare, which has operations in Yorkshire and the Midlands, has a turnover in excess of £3.5m and employs 32 people.

Excellence in Crewe deal
Cheshire East Council has taken over the running of three nurseries affected by the collapse of social enterprise company Excellence in Crewe. The deal has saved 19 jobs although 30 members of staff have been made redundant.

Carr's looks ahead to strong 2011
Carr's Milling Industries, the Carlisle-based agriculture, food and engineering group, has told the Stock Exchange the strong first quarter trading performance it revealed in November has continued into the new year. The business added that the growth in sales and profit it had achieved during the period reflected the successful integration of acquisitions made during 2010.

Winter weather helps Shop Direct sales
Cold winter weather has helped boost sales by 5 per cent at Shop Direct, the Liverpool parent company of the Woolworths and Very online brands, as more consumers opted to shop from home rather than hitting the high street.

Bolton deal child’s play for Knight Frank
