Export plans can drive recovery, says Drinkwater
New measures aimed at boosting exports by smaller companies to help drive an "open trading system and a competitive British economy” can drive the growth of international trade in the North West, according to UK Trade & Investment’s regional director Clive Drinkwater. Speaking to Insider, he said the plans demonstrate the government is serious about helping more small to medium-sized enterprises take advantage of export markets.

Fruitapeel buys All Natural Juice from administration
Confectionery sauce and fruit juice manufacturer Fruitapeel, headquartered in Skelmersdale, has bought the assets of Llantrisant-based All Natural Juice Company from administrators at Grant Thornton. The deal provides a lifeline for workers in the South Wales town as Fruitapeel has vowed to reemploy all 25 staff made redundant by administrators.

E Vials has right chemistry for Wheaton
Medical equipment manufacturer E Vials Europe has been sold to US company Wheaton Industries. The business manufactures and markets tubular glass products and laboratory equipment through subsidiary Laboratory Sales (UK).

NatWest backs A Longworth buyout
Cheshire building services company A Longworth and Sons has undergone a management buyout after securing funding from NatWest. The Sale-based business was founded more than 140 years ago and has a turnover of £2.8m.

Flogas buys Metcalfe and Evans
Warrington-based liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) engineer Metcalfe and Evans has been bought by Leicester LPG supplier Flogas for an undisclosed sum.

Business groups cautious on lending pledge
Business organisations in the North West have largely welcomed the confirmation that banks have agreed to a lending business target of £190bn this year, including £76bn to smaller businesses, but many have questioned how the industry intends to honour the pledge.

Manchester City climb money league
Manchester City FC are the biggest climbers in this year’s Deloitte Football Money League, moving up nine places to 11th from 20th. Of the North West clubs included in the top 20 world rankings, Manchester United maintained their position in third, while Liverpool slipped one place to eighth.

Colliers expects the return of the pre-let
Consultancy Colliers International has released its latest Net Stock Absorption figures for Manchester. It said net stock absorption of office space in Manchester remained positive in the second half of the year, as occupation levels rose by 47,912 sq ft. Grade A occupancy increased by 207,218 sq ft (5 per cent) over the same period.

Farmgen submits £3m Cumbria plans
