Co-op quarter rebranded as development partner sought
The Co-operative Group will today unveil the new branding for the area around its headquarters at the northern fringe of Manchester city centre, and will simultaneously throw the door open for potential development partners. The retail and financial services group will address the MIPIM property conference in Cannes with its plans.

Chess to move into ISP sector
Highly acquisitive Chess Telecom, based in Alderley Edge, is on the hunt for internet service providers (ISP) as it seeks to meet growing demand for data services. The company has been actively consolidating the telecoms market, but corporate director Richard Btesh told Insider that now was the time to expand capability through acquisition.

Manchester car dealer Lookers this morning reported a better-then-expected full-year profit, driven by a strong performance from its motor and car parts businesses and further reductions to its cost base.

Use brand Blackpool to drive tourism, says Varney
Blackpool should be one of the UK's "attack brands" to bring in more overseas visitors and encourage domestic tourism, according to Nick Varney, global chief executive of Merlin Entertainments. He told Insider that the company, which is opening a Madame Tussauds in the town next month, saw massive potential for the resort.

Emirates increases Manchester capacity
Airline Emirates is to introduce a third daily non-stop flight to Dubai from Manchester Airport. It will become the first carrier to operate three daily flights from Manchester to the same long-haul destination.

Bernstein: East Manchester legacy can be Olympic-sized
Sir Howard Bernstein, chief executive of Manchester City Council, said the announcement of a development framework for East Manchester could be of greater long-term significance than the Olympics. Speaking to Insider this morning at the MIPIM property conference in Cannes, Bernstein said: "Manchester is one of the few places outside London that major institutions will seriously contemplate."

£35m Co-op site gets go-ahead
Fresh from revealing plans about its Manchester operations, The Co-operative Group has been given the go-ahead to build £35m distribution centre in Avonmouth, Bristol.

Bibby relocates in Salford
Financial services firm Bibby Factors Manchester has relocated to a new 6,000 sq ft office at Salford Quays. The company has taken a five-year lease on the property. Property consultant Drivers Jonas Deloitte negotiated the new lease at Waterfront Quay on behalf of German property fund Warburg-Henderson.
