Co-op Travel and Thomas Cook to merge
The Co-operative Group and Thomas Cook are to merge their high street travel and foreign exchange businesses to create the country's largest retail travel network. The move will create a high street travel network with more than 1,200 shops and result in savings of more than £35m a year.

HKR Manchester closed as directors launch 5Plus
Management of the Manchester office of Dublin-headquartered architect’s firm HKR have launched a new business after the local operation was placed into administration. Hale accountancy firm Milner Boardman & Partners was appointed as administrator on 30 September.

Production starts at Pretek after £8m investment
Pretek Precision Homes has used an £8m investment to develop a house-building factory in Blackburn. The facility will allow Pretek to build 3,000-plus new zero energy rated, fully sustainable and eco-responsible homes per year.

San Carlo to open Kendals outlet in November
Manchester restaurant San Carlo, in King Street West, has confirmed that its second venue in the city, across the street in House of Fraser store Kendals, is to open in early November.

Sale Hotel sold for £950,000
Knutsford-based PH Property Holdings has sold the Grade-II listed Sale Hotel pub, in Sale, for £950,000 to brewer Greene King. It is set to be transformed into a "family-friendly" pub and will create 30 jobs.
