Wirral green lights £5m for JESSICA bid
Wirral Council's cabinet has given the go-ahead to put forward £5m in match funding so Merseyside does not miss out on a £30m European regeneration funding pot. The authority told Insider it is confident the Merseyside region will now secure access to the JESSICA (Joint European Support for Sustainable Investment in City Areas) fund ahead of an important European Investment Bank meeting on Wednesday.

Heathcote sells five restaurants
Celebrity chef Paul Heathcote has sold five of his restaurants to Knutsford-based bar and restaurant group Living Ventures for an undisclosed sum. The Olive Press branded restaurants in Cheadle Hulme, Liverpool and Manchester city centre will move over to Living Ventures. The Spanish restaurant Grado in New York Street, Manchester, and the London Road restaurant in Alderley Edge have also been sold.

Mixed picture for North West hoteliers
Hoteliers in Liverpool suffered a poor September with room rate and occupancy levels falling against the same period last year. But the Labour Party Conference in Manchester boosted its its occupancy levels 4.7 per cent to 81.6 per cent, according to preliminary figures released by PKF Hotel Consultancy Services.

Businesses launch solicitors’ outsourcing association
Eight UK businesses, including Wrexham-based Distinctive Partnerships and D2u in Bury, have formed a not-for-profit organisation designed to allow solicitors to reduce costs and overheads.

Baqus falls into the red
Baqus Group, which has bases in Liverpool and Manchester, has reported a £823,000 pre-tax loss for the year to 30 June. The building consultancy and quantity surveying group says it is now "focused on reducing costs" in a "difficult economic climate".

The Wro Bar and Lounge in West Kirby is to expand its offering after securing a grant from the Mersey Rural Leader programme. It will use the funding to open a 60-capacity event space called The Wro Loft.

Venmore's property sale set for TV screens
Liverpool auctioneer Venmore is to host its largest sale this year on 19 November - and it is to be filmed by BBC's Homes Under the Hammer. More than 70 lots ranging from residential, commercial and land are promised to be up for sale.
