Cable quizzed on bank lending

Business secretary Vince Cable was forced to defend the government's measures to get banks lending to businesses after his speech to the Greater Manchester Chamber annual dinner last night. He said: “It's a struggle. I encounter businesses every day of the week and it is the banks which are the problem.”

Liverpool’s hotels, shops and restaurants are gearing up for a bumper weekend as racegoers from across the UK descend on the city for this year’s sell-out Grand National at Aintree.
