Mere set for £15m makeover
Mere Golf and Country Club in Cheshire is to build a new 81-room hotel costing £15m. Owner Mark Boler told Insider the five-star accommodation would allow the club to "compete more aggressively in an all round market". The Royal Bank of Scotland has committed £8.2m towards the scheme, while Boler has invested £7m.

Northern Diver secures funding line
A Wigan-based importer and wholesaler of diving equipment has secured a £250,000 funding line from Yorkshire Bank to support its growth plans. Northern Diver (International) will use the cash to upgrade its premises and fulfil a contract worth more than £2.5m with the Ministry of Defence.

Williams Group buys Stockport dealer
Bolton motor dealer Williams Group has acquired Stockport-based BMW and MINI retailer David Holmes for an undisclosed sum. The deal takes Williams’ total number of dealerships in the region to 13 and should ensure turnover breaks the £300m barrier.

Tesco chief to sit on shadow LEP board
Sir Terry Leahy, the chief executive of supermarket giant Tesco, is among the senior business figures that make up the Liverpool city region’s shadow local enterprise partnership (LEP) board, it has been revealed today. Representatives from Jaguar Land Rover and Peel Holdings, the property giant which has submitted a bid to form its own LEP in the North West, will also sit on the board.

Pickles and Cable praise Manchester’s creativity
Greater Manchester’s existing partnership structure has been singled out for praise in a joint statement by communities secretary Eric Pickles and business secretary Vince Cable.

Norcros gains momentum
Wilmslow shower and tile maker Norcros has reported an encouraging start to the financial year, with revenues up 14.1 per cent in the 22 weeks to 29 August. The board said the company has “created sufficient momentum” to mitigate the impact of the uncertain outlook for UK consumer spending.

CMS Group boosts its ranks
Blackburn IT infrastructure business CMS Group has embarked on a recruitment drive after securing a string of new deals. The company is to take on ten new staff after winning £2.2m of new business over the past two months.

Development lull could harm Manchester, says Colliers
The Manchester office market could suffer a lull in supply as early as next year, according to the Net Stock Absorption report compiled by consultancy Colliers International. The report said that demand has continued to be high for the better quality space, but concern is growing that a "lag in development could adversely impact upon future inward investment if Grade A product becomes scarcer".

Bruntwood confirmed with MSP at Eye Hospital
Property company Bruntwood has been confirmed, along with Manchester Science Parks, as the preferred developer and operator for the proposed Manchester Royal Eye Hospital site at Oxford Road, as Insider suggested it would in July.
