Adidas man backs North West to reap Olympic rewards
The UK managing director of global sportswear giant Adidas has echoed comments made by Lord Sebastian Coe last week that the 2012 Olympic Games can have a massive impact on companies in the North West. Gil Steyaert told Insider that the event will be "truly national" and help to drive business confidence across the region.

Broughton hits out at Hicks and Gillett ‘abuse’
Liverpool FC chairman Martin Broughton has insisted attempts by the club’s owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett to block the £300m sale to New England Sports Ventures was a “flagrant abuse” of their written undertakings to the Royal Bank of Scotland. Hicks and Gillett stand to lose as much as £140m if the sale goes through next week.

Private equity enjoys strong third quarter
Private equity enjoyed a strong third quarter accounting for £9.3bn of the UK deal value, compared with £3.6bn in the second quarter, according to latest management buyout research by KPMG. The largest deal in the North West to complete during the period was United Utilities’ sale of its non-regulated gas and electric metre business Meter Fit to joint venture partner Marlin Acquisitions for £119m.

Peel to build Greenhouse at MediaCity
Peel Media has submitted plans to convert a three-storey building next to the Pie Factory at MediaCity into a range of office suites suitable for small creative companies. The development, to be called The Greenhouse, sits between the Pie Factory, already home to 26 digital and media businesses, and the new campus for the University of Salford.

WHR among the deals
Aneel Musarrat’s MCR has let a further 7,300 sq ft at Brook House in Fountain Street, Manchester city centre. Education business Global Graduates has taken a ten-year lease at the building, where quoting rents start at £11 per sq ft.

Bruntwood buys in Birmingham
Manchester-headquartered commercial property company Bruntwood has purchased Kennedy Tower in Birmingham city centre for an undisclosed fee. The tower, also known as Snow Hill Plaza, was put on the market earlier this year following the demise of its owner, Kenmore Property Group.
